#1 Aya Balm

Let’s talk about skincare, natural skincare without chemicals.

Ever since I’ve started blogging I’ve become a little bit obsessed with skincare. I’ve been trying to find all the products that compliment my skin and keep it hydrated. Natural skincare has always been an interest of mine, I use a homemade facial spray and makeup remover (which will be up in a DIY post soon). I’ve always tried my best to stick to skincare that doesn’t have too many chemicals and that won’t strip your skin of all its natural oils and good properties.

Some brands can be quite deceiving though! They market their products in a certain way to make you think it will be beneficial to your skin but when taking a good look at the product description you’ll find many chemicals that strip your skin off all its moisture (but that deserves a post all on its own!)

Enter my new favourite natural skincare brand. Aya Balm, I found this amazing brand wandering the Shongweni market last weekend and I was drawn to it immediately! The thing that is so unique about them is that they use raw sun-ripened paw paw as their active ingredient. Paw Paw is high in vitamin A therefore high in anti-oxidants and controls premature aging.  Paw paw also acts as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin cells and promoting skin renewal.  Their products are completely natural using no harmful ingredients or chemicals.

I really have fallen in love with this brand, all they wish to achieve is to produce a completely natural product that will only benefit your skin and not damage it, to be able to naturally treat skin aliments and promote healthy skin. The Aya balm products can be used to soothe dry skin, protect against chaffing, an alternative to petroleum jelly, minor burns and provide temporary relief from dermatitis. They are a purely cruelty free and South African brand.

I purchased a jar of their cream and I have been using it all week. I get very dry skin in the winter and using all my previous moisturizers I have had to apply many layers for my skin to feel hydrated, not tight and to protect it from these very cold midlands winters! I’ve been using the Aya cream these past few days I am amazed. After I shower I apply my usual aloe gel or rose water hydrating mist and a layer of the Aya cream and I am sorted! The cream spreads well and makes the skin feel hydrated and soft without leaving it greasy as some thicker creams do.  The cream has a very smooth and soft consistency, a little goes a long way!

If you have read any of my previous articles you’ll know that I’m all about the smell of beauty products! The Aya balm products have a very strange distinct smell tied to the sun ripened paw paw, it is a strangely satisfying smell that couldn’t be mistaken for nay other beauty product. Their products come packaged in glass or tin, therefore making them recyclable which is very important to me.

I really love this product and the brand as a whole as what they stand for is very important and I think all beauty brands should embody their values. This product is definitely going to become a regular in my skincare routine, next on the list is their nourishing oil.

I’m sure you will be hearing more about this brand in the future!
