Daily makeup routine

Ahhh first post! I’ve thought quite hard about what this should be about… so why not start at the beginning… the beginning of my day! My daily makeup routine and the products I swear by that give me a lightweight lasting bronzed look.

So here it goes, I swear by a good foundation. One that is lightweight, soft, smooth and that definitely smells amazing! I am always on the lookout for an inexpensive option that I love and I finally did!

The Catrice liquid coverage HD Foundation in sand beige is the best foundation I have tried… and believe me I have tried many! It smells like heaven and applies amazingly! It is extremely light although used for full coverage. It doesn’t cake on the skin or leave creases, and at only around R140 per bottle I am extremely happy and will definitely repurchase it as soon as my bottle is finished!

I have always battled with acne and outbreaks and after trying everything in the book I have settled on a routine (which we will delve into in another post) that keeps my skin at bay and I definitely think this foundation has a part to play. Since using it I haven’t broken out, my black heads pop up at a reasonable rate and my skin is always smooth and hydrated.

I apply it with a flat head Kabuki brush all over my face and then using a beauty blender I blend it out making sure there are no lines or creases.

Essence cosmetics All About Matt Compact Powder, I apply this next to my T zone. I love using this product as it is inexpensive and is in compact form. I prefer the compact form from the loose powder as it messes less and is easy to carry around (which I usually do because Africa is hot). This I apply with a fluffier powder brush to my T zone and then a light dust all over my face. At around R60 this is one of my favourite products.

MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Sunbasque, I never used to be a blush person as I have a deep natural blush already and as I just used to use a BB cream I didn’t feel I needed to use any, but about half way through last year when I started using a lighter base instead of the tanned BB cream (thanks winter) I started to just apply a little and I loved the bronze sun kissed look it gave me so now I cannot leave the house without it.

This blush has a more orangey tone which I love and applies with a light shimmer.  It definitely depends on your skin tone and preference to which blush suits your skin tone and I was told by the lovely lady at MAC who lathered my face in makeup and my mom that this is the colour I should wear! I got this as a birthday present but you can find it at MAC for around R300.

MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle – like blush this isn’t something I used to keep in my makeup bag, but frequent browsing visits into MAC and touching almost every product in the store I fell in love with this product. It applies smoothly with fine glitter and beautiful golden pigment. This was also a birthday present but you can find it at MAC for around R460.

Next we move onto the eyebrows, for my eyebrows I’m not one for redrawing them on my face! I just need a little extra definition to tame my one feral eyebrow and give it a matching sister! I use the Essence Cosmetics blonde Eyebrow Designer. It applies smoothly and easily and without much effort. At around R30 I have a few of these scattered around my room.

To my eyes, depending on the day I don’t usually wear eye shadow but if I do I use the w7 Lightly Toasted palette. It is an amazing array of nude colours that I love! It is usually just a brush of these golds and nudes or the dark brown Essence Cosmetics Kajal eye pencil which I smudge along my lower lash and a little on my top just to darken up the lash line.  The w7 palette I purchased in the UK and the essence pencils go for around R30.

Next is mascara, I love a good big brush in my mascara so if you see a girl trying out every mascara in Dischem that is me! At the moment I am using the Maybeline The Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof mascara which applies smoothly and clump free! It is super dark and rich and makes my extremely average lashes actually look at least a cm longer than they really are!

Last but not least my favourite product EVER – MAC prep + prime setting spray. I love this stuff. I usually spray it on before and after I have done my makeup, it sets the makeup amazingly and gives my face a lovely dewy look without making it look like I’ve been sweating the day away. After a long hot day my makeup is on my face and still looking presentable. At R320 for a bottle, this bottle is well worth the money. I have owned my bottle for over a year and I still have half to go (who knows if these things have expiry dates…oh well it shall be used!)
All in all it takes me less than 10 minutes to do my everyday makeup. I am all about a quick natural look.
There you have it! I hoped you liked hearing about all the stuff I put on my face and it has helped you decide or interested you in one of the products I use! Watch this space for more articles like this one!
